Deep Plane Neck Lift Overview
A traditional neck lift that simply stretches the skin. Meanwhile, a deep plane neck lift remodels deeper tissue for a more naturally revitalized look.
Signs of facial aging often begin in the underlying tissues. The tissue framework or “deep plane” that holds your skin up may begin to lose its flexibility and firmness. In these cases, just pulling the skin taut may not deliver the most attractive results.
During a deep plane neck lift in Des Moines, we’ll address aging at a structural level. We’ll release the ligaments that anchor down your muscle and connective tissue, and we’ll resuspend them to lift your neck’s tissues for a structurally slimmer neck and jaw. During the same procedure, we’ll remove excess skin and adjust it to match your new contours.
After your neck lift in Des Moines, you can look forward to a tighter neck, a stronger chin, a more sculpted jawline, and firmer skin. A deep plane neck lift also smooths out wrinkles and deep facial folds. Other benefits of a deep plane neck lift include longer results, a shorter recovery period, and a remarkably natural appearance.

Pre-Care Instructions
Actions to Take
- 1 month prior – Stock up on pillows, ice packs, bandages, and comfortable clothing. Stop smoking or using any tobacco products.
- 1 week prior – Confirm who’s going to drive you to the hospital the day of surgery and home afterwards.
- The night before – Do not eat or drink anything after midnight, including gum, water, cough drops, etc. Ensure you understand your medication requirements and what you can and cannot take before your surgery. Take a shower and wash your hair to ensure you’re clean for surgery the next day.
- The day of surgery – Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to your appointment. We recommend wearing a shirt that buttons instead of fitting over your head. Remove all jewelry, piercings, make-up, and nail polish.
Post-Care Instructions
Actions to Take
- After your neck lift in Des Moines, go directly home to start your rest and recovery.
- The first night after your surgery, sleep with your upper body elevated at a 45 to 60 degree angle.
- Sleep with your body slightly elevated for another few days.
- Take all your prescription medications and antibiotics according to your postoperative instructions. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery while taking prescription medication.
- If we’ve included a compression garment in your recovery plan, wear it as directed to reduce swelling and promote faster healing.
- Apply cold compresses as necessary to help reduce swelling.
- Wait at least one week before applying makeup.
Recovery Process
What to Expect
After your surgery, you’ll experience some normal postoperative symptoms as your body heals. These will gradually resolve over time.
- You may experience facial and neck swelling. This typically peaks around the 4th day after surgery, and then it will begin to subside. Wear your compression garment if included in your care plan, and apply cold compresses to reduce swelling.
- Bruising and swelling can remain for 3 to 4 weeks after your neck lift in Des Moines. The bruises will change color as part of the natural healing and fading processes.
Activity
During the first week, focus entirely on resting and recuperating. Avoid sitting for more than 2 hours at a time during the day. Get up periodically for a 10-minute walk around the house. This promotes your body’s circulation and prevents blood clots from forming.
Especially the day after your procedure, move slowly when getting up or changing position. The anesthesia may cause residual drowsiness, so you should take care in sitting or standing up. If you start to feel dizzy or lightheaded, sit or lie down and elevate your feet until you feel better.
During the second week, you’ll begin to feel more like yourself. You may feel comfortable running short errands and resuming light work and activities.
Once the third week passes, you can build up to moderate exercise once more. Wait to resume strenuous activities until approved by Dr. Condoleon, typically during the fourth week. He will check up on your healing and clear you to fully return to your normal routine.
If you have any other questions or concerns after your neck lift in Des Moines, don’t hesitate to reach out! We want you to feel confident about your results and your recovery.
Bathing
After a deep plane neck lift, we wait 48 hours before bathing. Take a lukewarm shower and avoid scrubbing at your incisions. If drains are present, be careful not to disturb them as you wash your hair.
