Complementary Procedures:
Liposuction Overview
Your body stores fat in two ways. Visceral fat surrounds your heart, lungs, liver, and other internal organs inside your abdominal cavity. Subcutaneous fat, on the other hand, sits between your skin and the underlying muscles.
During liposuction, we surgically remove subcutaneous fat by inserting a thin tube that suctions the cells away.
VASER Liposuction
During your VASER liposuction in Des Moines, we start by delivering pulses of ultrasound energy into fat deposits. This creates heat, which breaks apart the fat cells and makes them easier to remove. The heat also helps tighten your skin even during the liposuction process.
VASER also detaches fat from the underlying muscle, which makes this liposuction procedure a gentler option for patients. This feature, combined with VASER’s excellent precision, makes VASER liposuction an extremely popular body contouring treatment.
Liposuction with MicroAire
When you’re looking for more widespread fat removal, we’ll use MicroAire for your liposuction in Des Moines.
MicroAire gives surgeons an extra advantage when performing liposuction. Its power-assisted liposuction handpiece allows for more even fat removal, while its vibrating tip breaks up fat before suction. Combined, these features help ensure you enjoy beautifully smooth contours

Recovery Process
What to Expect
After your liposuction in Des Moines, you may experience some post-operative symptoms as your body heals and adjusts to its new shape.
- You may notice some blood-tinged discharge coming from your incisions for the first 24 hours. Change your dressings daily to keep the incisions clean and dry.
- You may experience a feeling of tightness and discomfort in the treated area for 2 to 4 weeks. This will gradually fade as your body heals.
- Likewise, some areas of your skin may feel numb for up to 6 months, but this will fade over time.
- You may experience residual swelling for 6 to 9 months. This is normal. The swelling will reduce over time, and you’ll see your results continue to improve and refine.
Activity
Throughout your recovery, avoid sitting for more than 2 hours at a time. During the day, get up and walk around for about 10 minutes every 2 hours. This will prevent blood clots from forming.
Your pain medication may cause some drowsiness or brain fog. Be careful whenever changing positions, especially when getting up. Move slowly, and pause throughout the process to let your body adjust. Sit or lie down and elevate your feet if you start to feel dizzy or lightheaded.
Do not engage in any exercise, heavy lifting, or strenuous activity until approved by Dr. Condoleon. You’ll have several followup appointments with him after your liposuction in Des Moines to check in on your progress.
Bathing
Starting 24 hours after your liposuction, you may shower with lukewarm water. Do not use hot water to shower. If standing is difficult, we recommend bringing a plastic stool into the shower so you can sit.
Wash the areas around your incisions gently. While washing, look over the incisions for infection, redness, or swelling. Contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
During your recovery, you may only take showers. Do not take tub baths for 6 weeks after your liposuction. You can take your compression garment off to shower, but you should put it back on immediately afterwards.
