Mommy Makeover Overview
Bearing a child is an incredible feat, but the changes it makes to your body may be less amazing. Childbirth, aging, or just plain genetics can all cause drooping breasts, changes in breast size, stubborn fat, or a thicker abdomen. With a mommy makeover, you can reshape your body and reclaim your confidence.
At SOMA, your mommy makeover in Des Moines includes a breast enhancement, a tummy tuck, and sometimes liposuction. We can customize this procedure to address your specific concerns, and we’ll work with you to give you a slimmer, more contoured look.
What It Treats
- Excess skin and fat hanging over abdomen
- Hanging skin from weight loss

- Take your antibiotics and pain medication as directed. Do not drive or operate machinery while taking your prescription pain medication.
- Resume activities slowly. Avoid bending, straining, and heavy lifting for the next 4 to 6 weeks.
- Do not drink any alcoholic beverages for the first 24 hours.
- Drink extra fluids for the first weeks to reduce swelling and stay hydrated.
- Change your surgical gauze as needed to keep all incisions clean and dry.
- Wear your compression garment and/or supportive bra as directed for the next 4 to 6 weeks.
- Follow any other instructions provided by Dr. Condoleon.
Recovery Process
What to Expect
Depending on the procedures included in your surgical plan, you may experience some or all of the following postoperative symptoms. These are temporary and will resolve as your body heals.
- For the first few days, you may notice some blood-tinged discharge coming from your incisions. Use the gauze and wear your compression garment and/or bra as instructed by Dr. Condoleon.
- You may experience swelling and bruising in one or all of the treatment areas. The bruising will typically change color, heal, and fade within 2 to 3 weeks.
- After liposuction, you may experience a feeling of tightness and discomfort in your abdomen. This will subside within a few weeks.
- Numbness or tingling around incision sites will resolve over a period of several months.
- Swelling may persist for up to 9 months. This is normal. Wearing your compression garment can help reduce swelling, and it will continue to improve over time.
- Your surgical scars may take up to a year to fully mature.
Activity
During your first week of recovery, focus completely on recuperating. During the day, get up every 2 hours to walk around for 10 minutes. Spend the rest of your time relaxing and avoid any other physical activity.
Dr. Condoleon will clear you for further physical activities, depending on the specifics of your surgical plan. Follow his directions closely. Reach out to friends and family for help as needed.
Once we approve you to start physical activity again, build back up to your normal routine slowly. Incorporate easy exercises and weights to start, and then increase gradually until you’ve regained your previous strength.
If you’re unsure whether you’ve recovered enough for a specific activity or exercise after your mommy makeover in Des Moines, don’t hesitate to call our office.
Bathing
You should plan to shower with lukewarm water instead of a bath during recovery. If standing proves difficult, bring a plastic stool into the shower so you can rest.
Wash your body with mild soaps and cleansers, and be especially gentle around the incision sites. Check your incisions daily for any signs of infection, redness, or swelling.
Taking Care of Your Incisions
After your mommy makeover in Des Moines, we will provide detailed post-care instructions for your incisions. We’ll send you home with a dressing that covers the incisions and absorbs drainage. Keep this dressing dry for 24 hours.
For the next 2 to 3 days, change the dressing daily or until the drainage stops. If you have surgical tape or glue on your incisions, don’t pick or peel it. Let it fall away naturally on its own.
